I have been using Net::SFTP::Foreign in conjunction with Net::SSH2. But also tried this just using the Net::SSH2. With the help of Salvador, we believe that Net::SSH2 has a bug and I am unable to get SSSH2 Destroyed UNTIL I exit the script. We worked through Foreign and then just tried SSH2 and the same behavior occurs using just SSH2. I am running on XP SP3 using Active State 5.12.4 build 1205 ( Jun 20, 2011 ). Using Net::SSH2 version .40 libssh2 version 1.4.1 I have attached the script used, but added .txt to the file name. Salvador provided me with a list to provide to you. The only thing I could not find or know how to find is libssl otherwise I beelive I have given you all that I have... Here is the last email that I received from Salvador ( Author of Net::SSF::Foreign ), who has been assisting in determining where the problem may lie: Show quoted text

And here it should not be 3 but 1. That's why the Net::SSH2 object is not being released until the script ends. This is a bug on Net::SSH2. I have been looking over its source code and I see no obvious error so you should report the bug to the module author. <<aapl508gt.pl.txt>> If you have any questions and/or problems, please let me know. Hi, Attached is a minimal script that shows the problem. When the destructor for the custom object created on the script is called, the reference count for the Net::SSH2 object is 4, and after destroying the Net::SSH2::Channel object it becomes 3 but In order to work correctly the reference count at that point should be 1. This is causing Net::SSH2 objects to be leaked until the script terminates (then they are released during the global destruction phase).

BTW, I am not able to reproduce the bug myself on Linux (I don't currently have any Windows machine available).

Thanks David, I am going to try to fix this over the next few days as I'm doing some work on Net::SSH2 currently. Unrelated question for you, did you build Net::SSH2 on Windows yourself? I am going to need to do that now to run these scripts and also because another person has asked me to provide building instructions for Windows. If you have any notes or things you remember can you please send them to me, and I will write them up in a BUILDING.WIN32 file for the distribution.

NO. I pulled via Active State's ppm for 5.12.4 build. I had received an update from Salvador on his Net::SSH2 which is part of his backend processing and just moved that in, but our final test was ONLY against the Net::SSH2 code. If anything I can do to assist, please do not hesitate to ask and will do all that I can...          If you have any questions and/or problems, please let me know.          Thanks.   Wags ;) David R. Thanks much. I went to CPAN and see .43 for Net::SSH2. How long before it makes it to CPAN? While the distribution makes its way to the CPAN mirrors you may obtain it here: http://pause.perl.org:81/incoming/Net-SSH2-0.44.tar.gz The distribution includes the file BUILDING.WIN32, which describes how to build the module on Windows, takes maybe half an hour or so. I really appreciate the help here, but I am not able to download the extra data needed. I have been using Active State Perl from the beginning because do not have access to compilers, etc. I will go to AS and see how long it will take to get SSH2 into the mix of things.. If that is too long, then will have to see what else I can do.. The instructions are for MinGW GCC compilers which are freely available/downloadable, you do not need Visual Studio for this or anything else which requires a license. On Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at 1:19 PM, Wagner, David --- Sr Programmer Analyst --- CFS via RT wrote: Show quoted text

Rafael, Sorry for the dealy, but have been out of the office since last Thu and only back into the office today. I looked for your version 0.44 for SSH2, but it was not there. So went out to Active State and found this about version 0.44 and failure in the make: CPAN.pm: Going to build R/RK/RKITOVER/Net-SSH2-0.44.tar.gz Show quoted text
>>> C:\Perl-5.12\bin\perl.exe Makefile.PL
The libssh2 library is required by this module. If you don't have it, you can download it from http://www.libssh2.org; you may also need OpenSSL, which can be obtained from http://www.openssl.org. Debian: sudo aptitude install libssh2-1-dev OpenSUSE: sudo zypper in libssh2-1 libssh2-devel You can pass your libssh2 lib and include dirs on the command line. E.g.: perl Makefile.PL lib=$HOME/libssh2/lib inc=$HOME/libssh2/include If you want to build on Windows, see the file BUILDING.WIN32 in the distribution. Can't link/include 'libssh2.h', 'ssh2' No 'Makefile' created RKITOVER/Net-SSH2-0.44.tar.gz C:\Perl-5.12\bin\perl.exe Makefile.PL -- NOT OK Prepending C:\cpanfly-5.12\var\cpan\build\ExtUtils-MakeMaker-6.62-wOZFFj/blib/arch C:\cpanfly-5.12\var\cpan\build\ExtUtils-MakeMaker-6.62-wOZFFj/blib/lib to PERL5LIB for 'test' Running make test Make had some problems, won't test Finished 2012-04-25T22:01:25 So it is not being moved over as a PPM module. The module cannot build automatically, it has to be built manually by following the instructions I've included in BUILDING.WIN32 in the distriubtion. As I've explained, you can do this yourself using freely available tools in about half an hour. If ActiveState wants to create a PPM for it, they will have to take special measures to do so, their regular process will not work. I've thought about building a PPM myself, but I'm in the middle of reinstalling my Windows computer so I won't get to it for a while and I don't know much about building PPMs and which repositories accept uploads.

Then Rafael, I am up a creek. If I can not pull from PPM, then all my work with Perl may be at an end. From the things I see in PPM, SSH2 does not build under any of the Operating systems( from Windows to Linux to Solaris to Mac OSX ) and has not been built since version 0.40. ( So unsure who did this, but that is what I see).. If I can not resolve, then I will have to approach my management team and let them know at this point, I have no way of supporting the internal emails that I do with Perl which will be a real pain... Have a good week and take care...          If you have any questions and/or problems, please let me know.          Thanks.   Wags ;) David R. Have you contacted Active State and asked? What happened when you tried to build it yourself following the intructions in BUILDING.Win32 ?

I never tried to build. If it is not part of Active State build, then I do not use. I have three systems involved(Solaris, Linux(VM) and Desktop ( XP )) and I can use AS to pull for all three. The one system is a production system and no compilers are on machine... I have tried to get a hold of Jan Dubois with AS to see how this is handled and no response back at this point( sent email at 05/07/2012-10:57 Mountain Time). I have been using AS since the 90's and have never compiled a program. Once I get a response from Jan, then I will have a better idea of what is needed. I would be interested in helping to take care of this and any future things like this. As I stated in an earlier email, version 0.40 is in AS, but nothing since then and ALL distributions do NOT have access to the latest Net::SSH2 unless they build for themselves in some manner... So unless I can get this taken care of, then will have to drop using Net::SSH2, Net::SFTP::Foreign and Foreign's other modules.. This is the first module I have really had any problems with, but I know from my past experience, that compiling is not the right way for my situation... Thoughts???          If you have any questions and/or problems, please let me know.          Thanks.   Wags ;) David R.
