Try Net-Daemon-0.46 I tried Net-Daemon-0.46 on Windows, Fedora Linux from a few months ago, then updated the Fedora and it still passes, so it looks like version 0.46 is a winner. Thank you very much for taking the time to report the bug.

On my smoker I have not yet seen any success with 0.46 or 0.47 for perls a v5.13.8-391-g7fe50b8 or higher. My smokers for older perls all had success, so there is a great improvement. The annoying thing is that you do not get FAIL reports because the smokers hang in some endless loop and finally get killed.

What operating system and version? Can you paste the screen messages? I went to http://static.cpantesters.org/distro/N/Net-Daemon.html and I can see that 0.47 works with v5.13.8, on GNU/LInux. On 3/4/2011 1:30 AM, Andreas Koenig via RT wrote: Show quoted text

Linux, several different versions, 32 and 64 bit, threaded and unthreaded perls. Show quoted text

No output after fork.t. Process simply hangs forever in forkm.t. Strace shows it is hanging in waitpid. Show quoted text

That's exactly what I said. The first 390 revisions after 5.13.8 worked and since v5.13.8-391 it doesn't work anymore. You'll note that you received no cpantesters reports at all for 5.13.9 and 5.13.10. That's why these tests do not yield results, they all hang and eventually get killed. In the ticket http://rt.perl.org/rt3/Public/Bug/Display.html?id=83646, already referenced above, the author of revision v5.13.8-391 provides a patch that fixes the bug in Net::Daemon. Did you find and apply it? If you want to see the exact change in perl that is labeled v5.13.8-391-g7fe50b8 you can go here: http://www.mail-archive.com/perl5-changes@perl.org/msg27178.html

The patch from Leon Timmermans was just uploaded to CPAN. It should be visible by tomorrow. I tested it with 5.12 on Windows (which does not have fork anyway) and a new Fedora Linux, which of course only means it is not broken with the older Perls, which we already knew. If it works in the blead Perl, please thank Leon for the patch Thanks On 3/4/2011 4:04 PM, Andreas Koenig via RT wrote: Show quoted text

Amazing. My smokers produced 22 PASS reports and no fail. Looks like we can have this ticket retired, finally. Thanks, Malcolm!
And Thanks, Leon!
This can be closed thanks to Andreas Koenig and Leon Timmermans.
