After a system perl update to 5.10.1, M::B transformed #!/usr/bin/perl to: #!/usr/bin/perl5.8.8 -T -w eval 'exec /usr/bin/perl5.8.8 -T -w -S $0 ${1+"$@"}' if 0; # not running under some shell Although no perl 5.8.8 exist in the system. an update to the latest version of Module::Build did not fix the problem. manually removing the script and running a "./Build clean" still generated the wrong path. Running "./Build realclean" was necessary to get the proper path. IMVHO, having a 'clean' and a 'realclean' target is always a bad sign for build systems. Some stuff here after... I don't know what!? Just started to appear recently: $ diff -bw scripts/cpan-install blib/script/cpan-install 1a2,4 Show quoted text

(even though the shebang was already OK!) When you ran Build after the upgrade, did you see a warning along the lines of "WARNING: Configuration was initially created with [OLD PERL] but we are now using [NEW PERL]"? I'll patch that to become a fatal warning. I can't think of any circumstance in which continuing in that case is a good idea.

Now that there has been a stable Module::Build release, I'm marking this "patched" issue as "resolved".
