Subject: advice of CPAN.pm leads to perl error message
While trying to clean up my build directory, I stumbled across this (yes, I know, it does not work this way):
Show quoted text
cpan> clean *
Warning: Cannot clean *, don't know what it is. Try the command i /*/ to find objects with matching identifiers.
Show quoted text
cpan> i /*/
Quantifier follows nothing in regex; marked by <-- HERE in m/* <-- HERE / Yes, my problem is answered in the FAQ (No. 18), but CPAN.pm should not suggest something leading to a perl error. Maybe the special regex tokens should be escaped?
Show quoted text
cpan> i /\*/
Quantifier follows nothing in regex; marked by <-- HERE in m/* <-- HERE / Okay, one more:
Show quoted text
cpan> i /\\*/
Author id = NEZUMI EMAIL hatuka@nezumi.nu FULLNAME Hatuka*nezumi - IKEDA Soji This works, but I consider this to be a bug. At least the docs do not mention it explicitly: | Arguments to these commands are either strings exactly matching the | identification string of an object, or regular expressions matched | case-insensitively against various attributes of the objects. The | parser only recognizes a regular expression when you enclose it with | slashes. Thanks, Frank
