Subject: Decreasing version number?

Currently Clan-Carp is not indexed on the CPAN. The only reason I can imagine, offhand, is that 5.10 denotes a decreasing version number against 5.9 because version numbers with only one dot in it have always been interpreted like floating point numbers. If this is the reason, then I can only suggest to please upload a 5.91 or 5.900.1 or 6 or whatever is larger than 5.9. Let me know if I can help in resolving the issue. Thanks,

I did an emergency restore from backpan for Carp-Clan 5.9 last night. I hope this doesn't make you angry with me, I just didn't see a better solution and the emergency case was clearly given. Thanks,

So, are there any plans to simply renumber the versions? If the floating point number theory is right, then the versions should have been numbered 5.01-5.10, or even 5.001-5.010. If you can't retroactively renumber releases, you could always number forth-coming releases as 5.901, 5.902, etc. Or, go crazy and call it version 6. That may violate the normal numbering conventions, but que sera sera. Worse things have happened. Either way, seeing this bug languish on CPAN when Carp::Clan is a dependency for other important modules is frustrating and probably unnecessary.

I just updated the version to 6.0. I asked around #perl or somewhere else if 5.10 was going to be a problem for CPAN and was told it would be fine. Oops. Anyone else wishing to handle maintenance for this module is free to take it. Josh
