Subject: Circular dependency between File::Path and File::Spec
Date: Fri, 14 Dec 2007 01:14:51 -0500
To: bug-Perl-Dist-Strawberry@rt.cpan.org
From: "Fredd Slabaugh" <freddisgoingtocollege@gmail.com>
The following happens whenever I try to upgrade any module:

cpan> install CPAN
Running install for module CPAN
Running make for A/AN/ANDK/CPAN-1.9205.tar.gz
  Is already unwrapped into directory I:\DOCUME~1\THEKOR~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\cpan\bu
ild\CPAN-1.9205
  Has already been processed within this session
Running make test
  Can't test without successful make
Running make install
  make had returned bad status, install seems impossible

Recursive dependency detected:
    CPAN
 => A/AN/ANDK/CPAN- 1.9205.tar.gz
 => Test::Harness
 => A/AN/ANDYA/Test-Harness-3.05.tar.gz
 => File::Spec
 => K/KW/KWILLIAMS/PathTools-3.25.tar.gz
 => File::Path
 => D/DL/DLAND/File-Path-2.04.tar.gz
 => File::Spec.

Cannot continue.

Here I am trying to install File::Spec

cpan> install File::Spec
Running install for module File::Spec
Running make for K/KW/KWILLIAMS/PathTools-3.25.tar.gz
  Is already unwrapped into directory I:\DOCUME~1\THEKOR~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\cpan\bu
ild\PathTools-3.25
  Has already been processed within this session
Running make test
  Can't test without successful make
Running make install
  make had returned bad status, install seems impossible

Recursive dependency detected:
    File::Spec
 => K/KW/KWILLIAMS/PathTools-3.25.tar.gz
 => File::Path
 => D/DL/DLAND/File-Path-2.04.tar.gz
 => File::Spec.
Cannot continue.

Same issue :(
System: Windows XP SP 2 (512MB RAM, ample hard-drive, 1GHZ processor)
Perl 5.8.8
Strawberry version:     This is 0.1.2, corresponding to Strawberry Perl 5.8.8 Alpha 2

Good luck, chaps! Great program :D
This is not a bug in Strawberry itself, but rather a bug in the PathTools/File-Path distributions (and one I would imagine they've already resolved).

Indeed. Sorry about the delay, but I got a bunch of bugs about that time that weren't related to Strawberry, so I mostly just ignored them. With the new release coming up, I'm trying to go through and clear out the bug queue. Adam K On Sun Sep 28 22:41:50 2008, freddisgoingtocollege@gmail.com wrote:

Hey, thanks man. Last night is a bit fuzzy in my mind, but I think I was looking for videos of ducklings on youtube when I got your email. Found some, btw: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DCicNdhcoZw

Good luck, FOSSil! Keep your pimp hand strong, and may your code be bitchin'
