Subject: allow DBD::mysql to be installed as non-root

Suggestion #1: when not finding mysql_config (as per http://rt.cpan.org/NoAuth/Bug.html?id=121) ask the user where it could be. But even when I added it to the path, it failed with lots or warnings and then (full log attached): <<dbdimp.c:2037: dereferencing pointer to incomplete type dbdimp.c:2037: warning: passing arg 3 of `mysql_dr_error' makes pointer from int eger without a cast dbdimp.c: In function `mysql_db_quote': dbdimp.c:2168: dereferencing pointer to incomplete type make: *** [dbdimp.o] Error 1 /usr/bin/make -- NOT OK Running make test Can't test without successful make Running make install make had returned bad status, install seems impossible>> This prevents me from installing bugzilla :( --> http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=207039

I have no idea what your actual problems are. However, they are definitely not related to your status as non-root or to the use of mysql_config. Obviously the header files are found. Otherwise the compiler would stop because of missing includes. I suspect the problem is due to a non matching version of the MySQL database and the drivers.

I am using mysql-standard-4.0.13-pc-linux-i686 DBD-mysql-2.1026 and Msql-Mysql-modules-1.2219 What else would you need to know to investigate the problem further?

I would suggest to use a binary version of MySQL and DBD::mysql. Bugzilla doesn't depend on a specific version and any Linux distribution I know comes with a preconfigured .rpm or .deb.

For all I know, I am using a binary MySQL on this RedHat 8 Machine. Is there also a way to get the DBD::mysql in binary form?

Thanks, unfortunately doesn't work "out of the box" either, but at least I have a new set of topics to dig in ... ;) Typo? For RedHat you talk about "gnorpm" - this probably means gnurpm?
