The Confusing World of Diets© Part One There are only two types of diets in the world. This has been true since the beginning of recorded history - and probably before. Wait a minute. I can just hear you now saying there are hundreds of different diets. However, all these different diets fall into two categories. The Atkins diet, the South Beach diet, the Mediterranean diet, the grapefruit diet, the cabbage soup diet all fall into one category or the other. The two types of diets are diets for health and diets for weight control. The weight control diets are mostly about weight loss. Although some people do have a problem gaining weight, they are the only ones interested in weight gain diets. Since the vast majority of people who are interested in weight control are concerned with weight loss, that is what we will concentrate on here. Part of the confusion over how diets work or don't work revolves around the fact that very few people like yourself are aware of these two different types of diet. Not only are you unaware, but you have no clue as to the importance of each. Now before you get too mad at me, this is not your fault. This is not talked about in the diet and weight loss industry. After all the diet and weight loss industry is a multi billion dollar business - every year. They don't care if their diets work or not. In point of fact, they know their weight loss diets don't work. But, they are good marketers and they keep you coming back for the newer and more improved latest diets. Just look at how the Atkins diet phenomenon took over. Now, the Atkins diet did have some good points, mostly in bringing an awareness of the overeating of refined carbohydrates in your diet. That is about it however. And Atkins high protein diet was not new. The first recorded high protein diet was developed back in the late 1700's. It didn't work then and another "new and better" diet came along to replace it. This is how the diet industry works. They bring out one diet and hype it to the limit. It gets on the news, there are diet books on the new diet, there are new foods for the new diet and this goes on and on. Until the next diet is ready. Then that one is the latest and greatest and gets hyped to the limit. This pattern has been followed for decades and people have been going from diet to diet for year after year. And the population has been getting heavier year after year. Does that mean the key is to stop dieting? Well, we will get to that a little later. As you can see weight control diets are a big industry and they continue to make tons of money for the industry. On the other hand we have diets for health.
