Subject: Bug 40771 Hangs under MSWin32
Date: Wed, 23 Dec 2015 12:09:06 +0000

This bug has been active since 2008. I am seeing it now under Windows 7 using Strawberry perl 5.22.0. Installing under CPAN, I get: Running Build test t\01require.t ............. ok t\02default.t ............. ok t\03catchsmry.t ........... Use of uninitialized value in subtraction (-) at C:\STRAWB~1\cpan\build\Term-Shell-0.06-8Xts9f\blib\lib/Term/Shell.pm line 352. Use of uninitialized value in subtraction (-) at C:\STRAWB~1\cpan\build\Term-Shell-0.06-8Xts9f\blib\lib/Term/Shell.pm line 352. Use of uninitialized value in subtraction (-) at C:\STRAWB~1\cpan\build\Term-Shell-0.06-8Xts9f\blib\lib/Term/Shell.pm line 353. Use of uninitialized value in subtraction (-) at C:\STRAWB~1\cpan\build\Term-Shell-0.06-8Xts9f\blib\lib/Term/Shell.pm line 353. Use of uninitialized value in subtraction (-) at C:\STRAWB~1\cpan\build\Term-Shell-0.06-8Xts9f\blib\lib/Term/Shell.pm line 352. Use of uninitialized value in subtraction (-) at C:\STRAWB~1\cpan\build\Term-Shell-0.06-8Xts9f\blib\lib/Term/Shell.pm line 352. Use of uninitialized value in subtraction (-) at C:\STRAWB~1\cpan\build\Term-Shell-0.06-8Xts9f\blib\lib/Term/Shell.pm line 353. Use of uninitialized value in subtraction (-) at C:\STRAWB~1\cpan\build\Term-Shell-0.06-8Xts9f\blib\lib/Term/Shell.pm line 353. Use of uninitialized value in subtraction (-) at C:\STRAWB~1\cpan\build\Term-Shell-0.06-8Xts9f\blib\lib/Term/Shell.pm line 352. Use of uninitialized value in subtraction (-) at C:\STRAWB~1\cpan\build\Term-Shell-0.06-8Xts9f\blib\lib/Term/Shell.pm line 352. Use of uninitialized value in subtraction (-) at C:\STRAWB~1\cpan\build\Term-Shell-0.06-8Xts9f\blib\lib/Term/Shell.pm line 353. Use of uninitialized value in subtraction (-) at C:\STRAWB~1\cpan\build\Term-Shell-0.06-8Xts9f\blib\lib/Term/Shell.pm line 353. At this point, the install simply hangs. However, typing 'q' allows the program to continue and the install to complete: t\03catchsmry.t ........... ok t\cpan-changes.t .......... skipped: Test::CPAN::Changes required for this test t\pod.t ................... ok t\style-trailing-space.t .. skipped: Test::TrailingSpace required for trailing space test. All tests successful. Files=6, Tests=10, 2 wallclock secs ( 0.06 usr + 0.06 sys = 0.13 CPU) Result: PASS SHLOMIF/Term-Shell-0.06.tar.gz C:\Strawberry\perl\bin\perl.exe ./Build test -- OK Running Build install Building Term-Shell Installing C:\STRAWB~1\perl\site\lib\Term\Shell.pm Installing C:\STRAWB~1\perl\site\lib\Term\Shell.pod SHLOMIF/Term-Shell-0.06.tar.gz C:\Strawberry\perl\bin\perl.exe ./Build install --uninst 1 - OK After install, the module seems to work fine under Win32. Possibly of interest, manually running test 03 does not hit the problem: c:\Strawberry\cpan\build\Term-Shell-0.06-dRMOYF\t λ perl -I ..\blib\lib\ 03catchsmry.t 1..1 Type 'help command' for more detailed help on a command. Commands: exit - exits the program fuzz - undocumented - no help available help - prints this screen, or help on 'command' ok 1 - catch_smry gets called for unknown methods But manually running 'build test' does hit the same bug as the CPAN install. I haven't been able to isolate the difference that cases the issue to occur. If someone could at least update bug 40771 and document the workaround of hitting 'q' to allow the install to complete, it may be helpful to others trying to install the module under Win32. Thanks for the report and the extra info. I added a comment to the effect on the older bug, which you could add as well by creating an rt.cpan.org account. Regards, -- Shlomi Fish
