It seems to be getting more common to use an openssl installation with old and unneeded features disabled. Support for md2 was already conditionalized, giving a good example from which to copy. The attached patch does the simple wrapping in #ifndef OPENSSL_NO_MD, though I expect X509_get_fingerprint() could get a more friendly error message if md5 is not available. -Ben Kaduk
