Having the exact same problem on CentOS 6.3. It's a prereq for Pinto and I am dead in the water until this gets fixed. Did not dig to figure out the root cause.

The cause is that "Carp-1.25" comes with this change:
  * add dot to end of message from Carp, to match the formatting from
    CORE::die
I'll compensate to allow both forms.

I had the same problem, and installed Carp 1.24: cpanm http://search.cpan.org/CPAN/authors/id/Z/ZE/ZEFRAM/Carp-1.24.tar.gz The tests then pass.
